Papers on Special Techniques in Athenian Vases

In June 2006, the J. Paul Getty Museum hosted an international symposium to coincide with the exhibition The Colours of Clay: Special Techniques in Athenian Vases. The themes of the exhibition – vases executed in bilingual, coral-red gloss, outline, Kerch-style, white-ground, and Six's technique, as well as examples with added clay and gilding, and sculpted vases and additions – form the basis for the essays in this volume. "Papers on Special Techniques in Athenian Vases" brings together more than twenty papers by renowned scholars that examine subjects as diverse as Social Contexts for Athenian Vases, Conservation and Analysis, Experimentation, and Markets and Exchange.
