About the author

Dennis Joseph Enright was born in Leamington, Warwickshire in 1920. He taught Englishliterature for 25 years, mainly in the East. He was subsequently poetry editor and directorof Chatto-Windus (1974-1982). In addition to writing poetry, he is a prose-writer (fictionfor adults and children, memoirs and criticism) and has edited various anthologies. Helives in London.
